Shot noise in negative-differential-conductance devices
Shot noise: Fluctuations of the current flowing through a device that result from the discreteness of the charge carrier. Shot noise provides information on the charge carriers and the transport mechanism in the device. The shot noise measurements in semiconductor heterostructure devices shed light on how the devices operate, beyond information provided by the electrical conductance. The shot n...
متن کاملNegative differential thermal conductance through vacuum
We propose a scheme for achieving negative differential thermal conductance in near-field electromagnetic thermal transfer. As an example, we show that the scheme can be implemented with two slabs of silicon carbide brought in close proximity to each other. We also describe how a bistable thermal switch can be constructed in this manner. VC 2012 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.367...
متن کاملPeriodic flexible maintenance planning in a single-machine production environment
Preventive maintenance is the essential part of many maintenance plans. From the production point of view, the flexibility of the maintenance intervals enhances the manufacturing efficiency. On the contrary, the maintenance departments tend to know the timing of the long term maintenance plans as certain as possible. In a single-machine production environment, this paper proposes a simulation–o...
متن کاملNegative differential conductance and super-Poissonian shot noise in single-molecule magnet junctions
Molecular spintroinic device based on a single-molecule magnet is one of the ultimate goals of semiconductor nanofabrication technologies. It is thus necessary to understand the electron transport properties of a single-molecule magnet junction. Here we study the negative differential conductance and super-Poissonian shot noise properties of electron transport through a single-molecule magnet w...
متن کاملLow porosity metallic periodic structures with negative Poisson's ratio.
Auxetic behavior in low porosity metallic structures is demonstrated via a simple system of orthogonal elliptical voids. In this minimal 2D system, the Poisson's ratio can be effectively controlled by changing the aspect ratio of the voids. In this way, large negative values of Poisson's ratio can be achieved, indicating an effective strategy for designing auxetic structures with desired porosity.
